2019 Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes with roof rails for the first time in the Alpha & Zeta variant, deliveries from next week

Maruti Suzuki kicked off the new year with an important launch as the new 2019 Wagon R entered the domestic market on January 23 with much anticipation. It was followed by the mid-life update of the Baleno with subtle changes to keep the momentum going as the premium hatchback endured another successful calendar year in 2018 with more than two lakh unit sales in India.

The Maruti Baleno is the first true success story from the Nexa premium dealerships and the Ignis based on the same Heartect platform has been positioned below the Baleno with modest sales numbers in comparison ever since it was launched in January 2017. The next model in line for 2019 Model Year update is the Ignis and it has already started reaching dealership yards.

Currently, the Ignis is priced between Rs. 4.75 lakh for the Sigma base petrol and Rs. 7.13 lakh for the range-topping Alpha AMT (both prices, ex-showroom). Available in a total of seven variants, the MY19 Ignis won’t likely see any increase in pricing and it has been spotted for the first time with the impending changes.

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to be launched on the 25th of February. The largest automaker in the country has included roof rails for the first time in the Ignis range and other features are to improve the safety quotient and stick by the new regulations. It will have co-driver seat belt reminder and high-speed warning system as standard.

Moreover, the infotainment system is also new in the MY 2019 Ignis. The Delta grade gains seatbelt reminder, speed alert and reverse parking sensors while the Sigma variant comes equipped with reverse parking sensors and seatbelt reminder in addition to the existing features. The top-spec Zeta, on the other hand, comprises co-driver seat belt reminder, speed alert and grey roof rails.

No mechanical changes are implemented as the MY19 Ignis uses the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-series DOHC petrol engine which is good enough to produce 82 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm. The powertrain is connected to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT transmission with a claimed mileage of 20.89 kmpl.
