Mumbai-Goa Luxury Train Tejas Express Commences Journey

Indian Railway is trying to offer luxurious and hi-tech train journey experience to the passengers through Tejas Express

Mumbai-Goa luxury hi-tech train Tejas Express started its maiden journey on Monday from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the much hyped train from CST via video conference. But, disappointingly for Indian Railway, the train was only half booked as it commenced its maiden journey.

Tejas Express is a dream project of Indian Railway and it was announced in 2015-16 Railway Budget to offer the passengers a luxurious and hi-tech journey experience. It is a 15-coach train with state-of-the art amenities on offer. It comes with high-quality and delicious menus, call bell function, GPS-based passenger information display system to show various inform the passengers various information.

The train has beverage vending machines helping passengers to get their preferred beverage through self-service. Its ergonomic design of ensures best possible comfort for the passengers, even better than the Shatabdi Express as well. It gets individual infotainment system through LCD screen for every passenger, just like passenger airplanes. Also, the train offers state-of-the-art security system incorporating high-quality CCTV cameras along with smoke and fire detection system. There are automatic plug doors like airplanes and they are controlled by guards.

The hand dryers, bio-vacuum toilets, automatic faucets with proximity sensors are the other features incorporated to the Tejas Express. This luxury train has one executive coach and 12 chair cars and it is completely air conditioned. However, boarding this train is a pricey affair. Compared to the Jan-Shatabdi Express, fare of the Tejas Express is around 25% higher.

Speaking about the Mumbai-Goa tesjas Express, base fare of the non executive chair car of this train is Rs. 1,033 without food compared to the Rs. 815 fare of Jan-Shatabdi. Also, in terms of speed and travel time it is same as the Shatabdi. Now, it is to be seen, if Tejas Express becomes able to draw passengers towards itself from Jan-Shatabdi.
