MG Motors To Introduce Two Products In India By 2020

MG Motors aims to roll out 80,000 cars from Halol plant; will offer diesel engines even if outsourcing is needed

MG Motors is gearing to up penetrate Indian market in 2019 and it will launch another product in 2020. The SAIC owned British brand says it aims to roll out around 80,000 cars per annum from the Halol plant in Gujarat. Also, the company confirms that it will offer diesel engine even if it need to outsource that.

Interestingly, SAIC doesn’t sell any diesel engine and Indian customers too are showing more interest towards petrol powered cars instead of the diesel powered models. However, despite the lowered demand for diesel powered cars, the significance cannot be denied. As President and MD of MG Motor India, Mr. Rajeev Chaba says, diesel engines are still important for a particular segment and this why the brand will sell diesel powered cars in the country, even if outsourcing is needed.

SAIC has several brands under its portfolio like Roewe, MG, Maxus etc. But, currently, it wants to focus on the MG Motors only. SAIC is also seeing India as a key market to become a global auto major in coming years. For that, it wants to establish a strong dealership network alongside offering global standard high quality products at aggressive pricing.

MG Motors hopes that its products will be able to impress the domestic buyers thanks to their global standard design executed by the brand’s global team based in UK, China and other international centres. The local production at Halol plant will help the company to suit the products to Indian conditions. Also, it will rely on parts sourced from competitive and world class global suppliers.

The automaker is aiming to pump in investment in multiple phases. In the first phase, it will invest Rs. 2,000 crore and then it will refurbish the Halol plant previously owned by General Motors. Currently, this facility has capability to roll out 60,000 units per annum. SAIC aims to expand that capacity up to 80,000 units per annum with the refurbishment.
