MG Motor To Launch Four New SUVs In India By 2020

MG Motor is planning to introduce four new SUVs in India by 2020 and the first two products will be launched this year while the other two is expected next year

MG Motor is going to enter the Indian market later this year as the company has already invested Rs. 2,000 crore of the planned Rs. 5,000 crore. They bought the Halol plant in Gujarat from General Motors to manufacture cars in India. Initially, the company is focusing on the SUV segment as they are planning to launch four new SUVs in the Indian market by 2020.

The first product from MG Motor will be Hector, which is a full-size SUV based on the Baojun 530 and the launch of Hector is likely to take place in the April-June quarter of this year. The second launch is likely to e-ZS electric SUV and the model made its global debut at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show. MG is expected to introduce e-ZS by the end of this year in India.

Then the company is going to introduce a 7-seater version of the Hector in 2020 but it could come with a slightly different design and a new name. Tata Motors is also adopting this strategy for Harrier as the seven-seater version will come with a tweaked design theme and premium features.

The fourth product could be a compact SUV and it is likely to be positioned against either Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza or Hyundai Creta, the entry-level model is expected to be priced below 10 lakh. MG Motor is also focusing on localization as the upcoming Hector come with around 75 per cent of locally sourced parts, which could help the company to lower the price of SUV.

Initially, MG Motor will open more than 100 dealerships and touch points across 65 cities as they are giving importance for aftersales as it is key for success in the Indian market and the company don’t want to make same mistakes like other manufacturers. MG has made some design tweaks for the Hector to make it look different from Baojun 530.

The front gets new grille along with split headlamps setup while the side comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and rear come with LED tail lamps. The Hector is expected to come with lots of segment first features like big vertically placed infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and more.
