MG Motors will make its debut in the Indian car market with the all-new India-specific Hector. The details of the Hector, which will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass in the Indian market are now known.

The MG Hector will be launched loaded with features and will have the most significant footprint too. Here is a comparison between the Jeep Compass and the MG Hector that will show you which one is better when it comes to features, performance, looks and space.

MG Hector is the most prominent car in the segment. It measures a whopping 4,655 mm in length and gets a wheelbase of massive 2,750 mm, which is quite long. The MG Hector’s width is 1,835 mm while the height is 1,760 mm. The SUV receives a 192 mm of ground clearance.

The Jeep Compass is much smaller in size than the MG Hector. The Compass measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width and 1,640mm in height. The wheelbase of the Jeep Compass is 2,636 mm, which is over 100 mm shorter than the MG Hector.

Visually, the MG Hector also looks much more modern. It gets a massive grille and split LED headlamps. The DRLs of the car positioned to form the extended part of the front grille of the vehicle and the main headlamp cluster is located below in the bumper of the car. The Hector gets a very sleek headlamp set-up and lots of chrome on the body.

MG Motors has used the chrome all around the vehicle including in the rear bumper inserts. It gets a window line underlined by chrome and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. The Jeep Compass gets the conventional design.

Jeep Compass Sport PlusThe SUV gets the iconic Jeep grille up front with large headlamps and integrated DRLs. Down below, the fog lamps are placed. Jeep Compass looks much more sophisticated with the dual-tone paint scheme, but MG Hector takes away all the road presence.

MG Hector and Jeep Compass both offer petrol and diesel engine options. Starting with the engine options of MG Hector, it gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 143 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine gets a choice between a 6-speed manual or a DCT automatic transmission.

The diesel variant gets a 2.0-litre engine that generates a maximum power of 170 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm. The diesel engine option only offers a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine of the MG Hector also comes with an optional 48V hybrid system that provides higher fuel efficiency.

The Jeep Compass gets powered by both petrol and diesel engine options too. The diesel variants of the Jeep Compass get the exact same 2.0-litre Multijet engine that powers the MG Hector. It also produces the same 170 PS and 350 Nm in the Jeep Compass. In Compass, the motor gets a similar 6-speed manual transmission.

The petrol engine options of the Jeep Compass get powered by the 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power of 160 Bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. The petrol engine option gets a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The Jeep Compass gets 4X4 option, but there is no such option with the Hector.
