MG Motors will soon launch the all-new Hector later this year to take on the likes of Jeep Compass in the Indian market. It will get both petrol and diesel engine options
MG Motors will enter the Indian market with their all-new SUV later this year. The all-new SUV is expected to take on the likes of Jeep Compass in the Indian market and will be launched in the third quarter of this year. MG Motors has already started testing the all-new SUV under a heavy camouflage in the Indian market.
As it is an all-new SUV, details like how it will look like or the specifications are not clear but we now know the engine details of the upcoming vehicle. The upcoming MG Motors Hector will get powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There will be a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that will be supplied by Fiat.
The diesel engine is same engine that powers the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. While the exact power output of the diesel engine is not known, the specifications of the petrol engine are now known. The 1.5-litre petrol engine powering the upcoming Hector will be turbocharged.
It is a four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 143 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. It will come with both manual and automatic transmission. There will be a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In comparison, the Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 163 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm.
The Compass also gets a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Other vehicles in the segment, like the Hyundai Tucson is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates a maximum of 155 Bhp and a peak torque of 192 Nm.
MG Hector will be loaded to the brim with features. It will get a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, cruise control and more. It will be very aggressively priced in the segment.
