MG Hector SUV is aggressively priced against competitors like Tata Harrier and it can be had in a choice of three engines
MG Hector has finally been launched in India today with huge anticipation and it has certainly been priced aggressively in the domestic market against competition. The mid-size SUV can be booked across MG Motor’s showrooms for Rs 50,000 as the network is already comprising of 120 touchpoints. MG says 10,000 bookings have already been made for the Hector.
For the uninitiated, the MG Hector is based on the Baojun 530, which is a Chinese SUV from the SAIC group that owns the MG brand. The Chinese group is looking at expanding into international markets and India is at the forefront of its plans. The Baojun 530 is also sold as reengineered Wuling Almaz and Chevrolet Captiva in select markets globally.
For the Indian market, the MG Hector is positioned to compete against Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the soon-launching Kia Seltos. The i-Smart connectivity features and Artificial Intelligence-based voice assistance play an integral role in differentiating the MG Hector from the rest of its rivals.

The MG Hector starts from Rs. 12.18 lakh mark and goes all the way up to Rs. 16.78 lakh for the range-topping petrol DCT Hybrid (ex-showroom). The diesel variants is retailed in a price range of Rs 13.18 lakh to Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom).
However, while the Seltos offers 37 connected features, the Hector tops the chart by offering as many as 50. It also comes with some segment-leading features, like a huge panoramic sunroof, that gives an edge over its rivals.
MG Hector Engine Specs:
The MG Hector SUV is on sale in three powertrain choices: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with segment-first 48V mild hybrid and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel. The hybrid-petrol and diesel engines are available only with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the petrol version is also available with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine of the MG Hector is the same Fiat-sourced Multijet II unit that is even available in the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. It produces a maximum power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. It has an ARAI-certified fuel mileage of 17.41 kmpl.
MG Hector Features
MG Hector is sold in a range of four variants – Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Standard features across all the trims include dual front airbags, ORVM-integrated LED turn indicators,3.5-inch MID, cooled glove box, front and rear disc brakes, ABS with EBD and brake assist, roof rails, projector headlamps with LED DRLs.
The range-topping Sharp grade features four-way electrically adjustable co-driver seat, eight colour mood lighting, 360-degree view camera, 6 airbags, heated ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, 7-inch MID, panoramic sunroof with anti-pinch function and sunglasses holder.

The Hector is offered with MG Shield allowing for 5-year/unlimited km warranty, 5-year/unlimited km roadside assistance as well as five labour free services. The MG Courtesy Car Programme enables medical assistance with 24×7 pulse hub in case of emergency.
MG claims best-in-segment maintenance cost for the Hector – Rs. 0.45 km/year for petrol and Rs. 0.49 km/year for diesel along with annual maintenance packages.
