MG Motor is gearing up to shake up the premium SUV segment in the Indian market with its debut product, the Hector. Having been showcased to the media officially, the Hector will go on sale next month and you could learn all about it in our video from the show-floor attached below.

The Hector comes with several segment first features and its annual sales target stands at 18,000 units. The Chinese-owned British manufacturer is targetting Indian customers with a range of new SUVs as the five-seater Hector will be followed by a seven-seater variant and an all-electric eZS by the early parts of next year.

The Baojun 530 based Hector looks to take a first mover advantage in the connected car space as it is packed with unique in-car technologies. MG has collaborated with several tech giants to offer customised customer experience. Alongside the list of 100 connected car features, the vertically oriented 10.4-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system grabs all the attention.

Some of the highlighting features are embedded 5G ready Airtel SIM card with IP version 6, over-the-air updates, Ganna premium account, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, TomTom maps, AccuWeather, Emergency Response, Geo-Fencing, leather seat upholstery, all-black interior theme, panoramic sunroof and so on.

The Hector beats the competition comprehensively in terms of dimensions and it measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and 587 litres of bootspace. The Hector is powered by a 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet diesel engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid technology.

The former produces a maximum power output of 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. The petrol powertrain develops 143 PS and 250 Nm and the 48 V lithium-ion battery enables additional torque of up to 20 Nm while helping in reducing emissions as well as improving fuel economy. It is connected to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic unit.
