MG First SUV Likely To Offer These Class Leading Features In India

The upcoming SUV from MG Motors is expected to be loaded with class-leading features and it might be priced under Rs. 20 lakh

MG Motor is currently working on its first SUV for India and the upcoming model will be manufactured at the Halol plant, which they bought from General Motors. The new SUV will be based on the Baojun 530, which is sold in China and the company has already commenced road testing of the SUV in India.

The British manufacturer will heavily localize the SUV to price it aggressively against competitors and the new model will be loaded with class-leading features. The top end model will come with Harman Infinity sound system along with electric parking brake, panoramic sunroof, electric seats, leather seats, aluminium wheels, push-button start, keyless entry and more.

The company is also focusing on cabin noise as the SUV come with 3M sound insulation to keep the interior quiet. MG is also giving importance for safety as the Boajun 530 based SUV come with six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP and more. To improve comfort, the company might give independent suspension at the rear as standard.

The Boajun 530 measures 4655 mm length, 1835 mm width and height of 1,760 mm, we are expecting the Indian model to carry forward the same length as spy images has already confirmed that the SUV is more than 4m in length as they won’t reduce length for excise duty benefits and the front get signature grille of MG.

The side design is similar to Baojun 530 and top end variants might come with 18-inch wheels. The rear gets LED tail lamps along with a new bumper and integrated spoiler. MG Motor is benchmarking the interior of the upcoming SUV with Hyundai Tucson, so we can expect the quality of materials to be top notch.

The engine options for the SUV include 1.5 L turbocharged petrol engine producing 168 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque while the diesel engine will be the 2.0 L unit sourced from FCA with 170 hp. The gearbox options include manual and automatic along with four-wheel drive option. The upcoming SUV is expected to be priced under Rs. 20 lakh.
