MG eZS India Launch, Price, Specs, Features, Interior, Range

MG eZS electric SUV will be introduced in December this year in India and it will be manufactured at the brand’s base in Gujarat

MG Motor India has announced that the all-electric eZS premium SUV will be manufactured at its Halol facility in Gujarat. One of the first zero-emission SUVs to be produced locally will be introduced in December this year. Releasing the statement on world environment day, MG has also included a video of the first prototype being produced at its base in the country’s westernmost state.

The MG eZS is a five-seater SUV with zero carbon footprint on roads and the British carmaker says that it aims to “contribute towards a better tomorrow for all” by providing eco-friendly mobility solutions as part of the long term commitment for the Indian market. It has also admitted testing of a few prototype vehicles in extreme climatic conditions across the nation.

MG comes under the Chinese state-owned SAIC group and it has invested Rs. 2,000 crore in its production factory for the installation of new assembly line, parts distribution centre, press shop, body shop, testing track and training facility in the plant within 18 months. The facility also has a captive vendor park for high localisation of its vehicles, which will in turn help in aggressive pricing.

The brand’s first product for India, the Hector, will be launched later this month and it has already been previewed. Ahead of its official market entry, MG has been working on setting up its dealerships across the country with 120 touchpoints and by September the number would increase to 250 centres.

Following the eZS, MG will more likely launch the seven-seater Hector in early 2020. The eZS will face quite a competition from the soon-arriving Hyundai Kona EV as it is expected to be priced around Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

The eZS made its public premiere at the 2018 Guangzhou Motor Show and in international markets, it uses a 110 kW electric motor and a high capacity Lithium-ion battery claimed capable of delivering 428 km range on a single charge.
