Only 300 units of Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet will enter production; claimed to be ultimate in open-air exclusivity and gets 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 motor
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet has been unveiled ahead of the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show. Powering the limited edition model is the larger 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 motor which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 621 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and comes mated to a seven-speed 7G-TRONIC dual-clutch automatic transmission sending power to the rear axle.
The engine is the same found in the Mercedes-AMG S65 sedan that makes a mammoth 1,000 Nm peak torque between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. The top speed is claimed at 250 kmph while the o to 100 kmph sprint can be achieved in just 4.1 seconds. Only 300 examples will be produced as the S650 Cabriolet will enter European markets in the spring of next year and will cost around 300,000 Euros (Rs. 2.18 crore).

It is based on the open-top S-Class and has adopted its aesthetic proportions with key highlights being the dynamic silhouette with coupé-like soft top and the sidewall dropping line sloping down towards the rear. The exclusive Mercedes-Maybach features include a new front bumper with upgraded lower section, plenty of chrome highlights enhancing luxury, Maybach emblem on the vehicle’s wing, quad tailpipes, 20-inch Maybach forged wheels with bichromatic finish, Maybach logo projected onto the floor when doors open, etc.
The new Cabrio is all about the luxurious interior features more than the exterior and Mercedes-Maybach brand certainly did not disappoint. On the inside, the fully leather-trimmed Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet boasts design ideas inspired from the Concept S-Class Coupé. They include dynamic “flowing lines” in the seats, waterfall-like seat upholstery layout achieved with aid of progressive perforations, dashboard trim and ambient lighting, dual screens, highly-detailed outer diamond quilting on the seat side bolsters and the Budapest piping. The optional fitment like AIRCAP, AIRSCARF and Swarovski headlamps on the S-Class Cabriolet have been made as standard in the S650 soft-top.
