2016 Delhi Auto Expo: Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV unveiled, launch later this Year
Mercedes has released a direct rival to go up against the likes of Audi Q5 and BMW X3 at the Auto Expo 2016. Positioned in the middle of the GLA and the GLE, the oppulent GLC SUV has similarities in appearance to that of the luxury German manufacturer’s best-selling C-Class sedan.
It will be brought into the country as CBU(Completely Built-up Unit) imports and is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 50 lakh in the Indian luxury SUV segment space. It could be available in the various Mercedes showrooms spread across the country from the second half of this year. The luxury SUV not only has identical exterior styling to the C-Class sedan but comes boasting with almost the same interiors with additional equipment list pertaining to the capabilities of the Utility Vehicle.
It features luxurious cabin and sumptuous items on the dashboard and centre console. It comes with aluminium finished buttons and dials, COMAND Online touchscreen infotainment system, Burmeister audio system, circular air conditioning vents, etc. The GLC SUV could be powered by a 2.1-litre four-cylinder unit pumping out a desirable 168 bhp of maximum power output for the 220d and 201 bhp for the 250d.
An even more powerful version equipped in the GLC 350 is a 3.0-litre petrol V6 mill and a plug-in hybrid 350e variant with an additional electric motor providing better fuel economy. Both the motors will be coupled with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox with 4Matic all-wheel drive system available as standard.
The carefully sculpted body has resulted in a drag co-efficient of just 0.31 Cd and there are five modes drivers can choose based on their requirements. Besides a slew of safety and driving assistance technologies, the GLC SUV has variable damping suspension system to tackle various terrain and tarmac conditions and several electronic features to enhance ride quality and handling nature of the luxurious 4×4.
