Mercedes-Benz EQ sub-brand made appearance at the Paris Motor Show through an electric SUV concept with 500 km drive range

Earlier, Mercedes-Benz trademarked EQ name for its new range of electric cars and Daimler AG filed rights for several nomenclatures bearing the same moniker. The EV race has spurred up in recent times with Tesla, being an EV car manufacturer wholly, seems to have taken advantage over the well-established traditional companies like Mercedes-Benz.

The stringent emission norms prevailing in Europe, America and Asia have driven the conventional auto giants to quickly opt towards reliable technologies in the Electric Vehicle marketplace. Some of the electronics and technology based globally acclaimed brands like Apple, Samsung and Google have also ventured into the EV space as each one of them tries to find sustained transportation solutions with hurting the environment.

Under the motor vehicle classification, Mercedes trademarked EQA, EQC, EQE, EQG and EQS, EQ Inside, EQ Boost and Generation EQ this month. All the filed names can be associated with current model range in the lineup with the EQA for A-Class, EQC for C-Class, EQE for E-Class and EQS for S-Class. The EQ Boost could be used as a unique hybrid variant badge as similar to the iPerformance badging in BMW that ends with e for the hybrid models.

Kick-starting the EQ portfolio will be an electric SUV that was showcased as a concept at the Paris Motor Show and will enter global markets before this decade’s end. It will be the first of more than 10 fully electric cars that Mercedes is planning on launching by 2025 and will build at its Bremen plant. The rendered compact hatchback based on the EQ SUV concept could rival BMW i3 and Tesla Model 3 with a conventional electric drivetrain and signature illuminated styling in line with the brand.
