Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain will have its unique place in the brand’s Indian portfolio with its wagon bodystyle and off-roading capabilities

Underlining Mercedes-Benz’s versatile presence at the Auto Expo, the new E-Class All Terrain is said to be comparable with other SUVs in terms of its aerodynamics, greater ride height and bigger wheels while maintaining its uniqueness.

It comes equipped with a striking SUV stance with flared wheel arches and SUV-esque twin-fin radiator grille with a star emblem integrated at the middle. The ruggedness nature is compounded by the distinctive robust outer load sill protection and front bumper while the paneling in under-ride guard electroplated in silver-chrome.

Aimed at rivaling the likes of Volvo V90 Cross Country and Audi A6 Allroad in the international markets, the All-Terrain is indeed a purpose-built vehicle born out of the E-Class range.

The German luxury brand has introduced several modifications on the outside of the standard E-Class to accommodate a new body style for the All-Terrain version. Mercedes has offered 4Matic All Wheel Drive system as standard.

Important changes include enlarged dual-slated front grille, prominent wheel arches and the obvious wagon body style. Suspension unit can be tuned with the help of Mercedes’ Air Body Control multi-chamber system with ride height change of up to 35 mm.

It is endorsed to be the most versatile E-Class as it does the duties of an SUV and give space advantages of an estate with advanced safety features and the latest E‑Class interior.

Mercedes has had the all-wheel drive system specially tuned for the E-Class All-Terrain. The larger 19-inch light alloy wheels are made available to meet off-roading and handling requirements as well as riding comfort in any surface conditions.

The new Estate will likely be offered with single engine option as the 2.0-litre diesel engine can produce a peak power output of 191 hp and 400 Nm torque. The motor is coupled with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission that helps achieve a top speed of 232 kmph.

The world premiere of the E-Class All-Terrain happened at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and it has assumed an unique place in the luxury market ever since. As the Volvo V90 Cross Country was introduced in India in July 2017 with a D5 turbo diesel engine making 235 hp and 480 Nm torque, Mercedes-Benz fancies its largely untapped segment share.

The All-Terrain comes in a single top-spec trim level with Mercedes saying that it in coherence with the AMG Line offered in other E-Class versions. The important features are Speedtronic cruise control, Parktronic, 12.3-inch infotainment display with sat nav, DAB radio and smartphone connection.

Customers will get access to leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, electric tailgate and a 640-litre cargo bay with the boot that can be extended to 1,820 litres with the 40-20-40 split and tip rear seats folded down.
