Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster gets powered by 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine making 476 hp and 630 Nm peak torque; 0-100 kmph in just 4 seconds
Mercedes-AMG drew the covers off two roadster versions of the GT sportscar at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and now one has arrived in India. Fanatics of the German luxury automaker knew it was just a matter of time before the roof on the GT got chopped off for people seeking a drive in the sun.
Priced at Rs. 2.19 crore (ex-showroom), the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster gets powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine pushing out a maximum power output of 476 hp at 6,000 rpm and 630 Nm peak torque between 1,700 and 5,000 rpm. The twin turbo unit will help the GT Roadster accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in just 4 seconds. The canvas roof-top can be opened and closed in just 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 kmph.

The Roadster can top out a speed of 302 kmph thanks to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to the rear axle. The more aggressive GT C Roadster develops a total of 550 horsepower and 680 Nm peak torque. It can go from zero to 100 kmph two tenths quicker than the GT Roadster aided by the high-rated engine. But unfortunately it won’t be available in India right now.
The GT Roadster is fitted with the new 300 SL Panamericana-inspired grille with an altered structure and vertical chrome bars replacing the blades on the GT Coupe. For improved aerodynamics and efficient engine cooling, the GT Roadster gets an active air management system seen on the Nissan GT-R.
The grille has vertical louvers within the grille and it automatically opens and closes for smooth airflow and enhanced engine output based on the bay’s temperature. There’s a prominent front splitter in the lower part of the front bumper alongside bigger air ducts and well-defined sills below the doors.
The significant features of the GT Roadster are AIRPANEL active air management system, AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, AMG performance exhaust with titanium elements, AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission, sporty red seat belts, AIRSCARF, Draught stop, AMG exterior chrome package, AMG performance steering wheel in black DINAMICA micro-fibre with top-stitching, etc.
Like its bigger cousin the GT R, which accompanied its launch, the GT Roadster can be customised based on owners’ preference courtesy of the designo platform Mercedes has framed. It offers exclusive interior appointments, unique paint schemes, new trims, hand-sewn leather upholstery, trims made from fine wood or lustrous natural stone, etc. It comes with 3 years/ unlimited km compact service pack for Rs. 92,000 or 4 years/ unlimited km for Rs. 1.60 lakh.
