Mercedes A-Class plug-in hybrid could run up to 50 km in electric mode; expected to debut at 2018 Geneva Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the next generation A-Class in global market soon and ahead of its arrival, a plug-in hybrid variant of the luxury hatchback has been spied testing for the first time. This greener A-Class is expected to debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
Speaking about this plug-in hybrid variant of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, it will arrive with an efficient environment friendly powertrain. Expect the car to be capable of running around 50 kilometres in all-electric mode. The camouflaged test mule that has been spied in a parking lot somewhere in Northern Sweden, gets an extra fuel cap as well as high voltage and hybrid stickers on it.

Despite being heavily camouflaged, sharp headlamps and taillights along with sporty alloy wheels and bumpers are visible in the text mule. Also, the black roof is visible as well. While the other hybrid models like C350e, E350e and the new S560e from the German luxury car brand get charging port positioned at the rear bumper under the taillight, the plug-in hybrid version of new A-Class hatchback gets the port mounted on the rear fender on right side.
One interesting fact is the absence of the exhaust system in the test mule. Its lower rear profile appears to be fully concealed. However, the final production model will surely have the exhaust system, considering the fact that this car is not a fully electric model, but a plug-in hybrid variant.

Meanwhile, the German luxury car manufacturer is gearing up to showcase the new A-Class hatchback’s new touchscreen infotainment system at the CES 2018 in Las Vegas in next month. Mercedes says, this new infotainment system will be available in all the compact cars from the brand.
So far, one thing is clear that alongside thriving towards zero emission pure electric mobility using its EQ sub-brand, Mercedes-Benz is also aiming a greater share in green car market with range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models and the new A-Class is a part of that program.
