Maruti WagonR has reached the 30 lakh sales milestone in India and reasserts itself as the best-selling passenger car

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has today announced that it has achieved a new milestone with the WagonR. The tall riding hatchback has been around for decades and is one of the most consistent sellers in the domestic market ever. It has now crossed the 30 lakh sales milestone in India, underlining its status as the country’s best-selling passenger vehicle.

The third-generation WagonR has been on sale for over four years and is well-received as well. Currently priced at Rs. 5.54 lakh for the base variant, it goes all the way up to Rs. 7.42 lakh for the top-spec model (ex-showroom). The hatchback can be had in two engine options: a 1.0L three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2L NA petrol engine with manual and AMT options.

The K-series Dual Jet, Dual VVT units with Idle Start Stop are fuel efficient and the WagonR can also be bought with a CNG option, powered only by the 1.0L engine. It can be chosen from a total of nine colour schemes namely Solid White, Poolside Blue, Magma Grey, Magma Grey/Black Roof, Silky Silver, Nutmeg Brown, Gallant Red, Gallant Red/Black Roof and Pearl Midnight Black.

Speaking of the new milestone, Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “WagonR’s continued success with over 3 million cumulative sales is a testament to its undisputed reign as one of the most iconic Indian hatchbacks. Since its launch, WagonR has constantly evolved and risen to the pulse of changing customer preferences with class-leading features, design and performance.”

According to him, the model retains the highest percentage of buyers as 24 per cent of the consumers prefer to upgrade to a new WagonR. The five-seater has been a regular feature in the top ten car sales charts almost every month and it has held its top spot as the best-selling PV in India for the last couple of years.

The latest Maruti Suzuki WagonR sits on the fifth-generation lightweight Heartect platform, which is said to feature high tensile steel grades and is designed to absorb impact energy with its designated crumple zones. As for safety, it gets ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill-Hold in AGS.
