The new generation of Wagon R will be powered by 1.0 L and 1.2 L K-series engines with the option of manual and AMT gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT has been spotted for the first time in India as the company is going to launch the new model on January 23. The production has already commenced and the initial batch has reached dealerships. The latest spy video of Wagon R AMT at a dealer yard reveals more details about the exterior and interior design.

The new Wagon R retained the same tallboy design theme as the previous model but the front gets new headlamps and the grille design gives the impression of a bigger car. The fog lamp housing is also new with wider air-intake, which is finished in black colour. The C-pillar of the Wagon R is finished in black colour.

The company has given a new design for the taillamps and an integrated spoiler with high mounted stop lamp also. The interior design is completely different from the outgoing version and it is finished in beige and brown colour theme. The centre console is dominated by the touchscreen infotainment system as it is expected to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel is new and it gets aluminium finish also. The instrument cluster design is different from other Maruti models as it is focused around speedometer with MID screen on the right and other indicators displayed on the left side. The gear lever is integrated into the centre console.

The new generation Wagon R is based on the modified platform of current model as new Heartect platform will make it expensive to manufacture in India but the engineers have made the new platform stronger to meet the upcoming safety standards. The company has increased dimensions to improve space inside the cabin.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to offer dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver seat belt alert as part of the standard option. The Wagon R will be powered by two engine options – 1.0 L K-Series engine from the current model with 67 PS and 82 PS 1.2 K-Series engine, the gearbox options includes 5-speed manual and AMT. The company will also offer CNG option also and we can expect the new model to be priced slightly higher than the outgoing version.
