Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Review5

Prices of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza undergo an increment of Rs 8,930 while prices of the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remain unchanged

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest-selling manufacturer in the country, has hiked prices of many of its cars by up to Rs 10,000. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which is the only SUV in the company’s lineup, has got dearer by Rs 8,900, while the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Ertiga doesn’t get any change in the prices. The Maruti Alto 800 and Alto K10 have got costlier by Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000, respectively.

The carmaker has said that prices of several models, like that of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, have been increased to offset the increase in commodity prices and unstable currency exchange rates. The new prices come into effect starting 10 January 2019.

With a total 155,466 units sold in 2018, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the highest selling SUV in the market. Compared to 2017, when it sold 140,045 units, the compact SUV registered a 10% growth on a YoY basis. At the second spot on the best-selling SUVs list is the bigger and more expensive Hyundai Creta. It sold 120,905 units last year, a 15% increase from 105,484 units sold in 2017.

The other models in the top-selling SUVs list include the Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon, both of which are arch rivals of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. While the Nexon sold 52,519 units, the Ford EcoSport clocked a total sale of 51,973 models.

In the coming months, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will face two new rivals in the form of the Mahindra XUV300 and the Hyundai Styx. The former is based on the X100 platform of the Ssangyong Tivoli and will offer class-leading interior space and features. It will be available with powerful turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The Styx, on the other hand, will also offer turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and is expected to look like a smaller version of the hot-selling Hyundai Creta.

At the moment, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is available only with a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces 90 PS and 200 Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
