Maruti Suzuki has 2 big launches up for grabs this financial year, one will likely be the flagship SUV and the other pertaining to volume space

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch 2 brand new models in the Indian market during the course of this fiscal. While the auto industry as a whole was predicted to grow in double-digit last year, several issues hampered the progress of manufacturers and Maruti Suzuki’s YoY sales increased only by 7.3 per cent.

It was impressive in many ways as the new Swift arrived in February, facelifted Ertiga in August and second-gen Ertiga in November last year. The Indo-Japanese automaker head-started this year with the new generation Wagon R launched in January along with Baleno facelift, Ciaz 1.5 Diesel and Alto 800 facelift with BS6 compliant engine. MSIL’s Chairman RC Bhargava had recently confirmed that his company would be focussing on expanding its range into segments with high potential.

Maruti Suzuki will also be putting its resources into upgrading its remaining vehicles to meet upcoming safety standards as well as developing engines to comply with BSVI emission norms. Of the two models waiting in the horizon for FY2019-20, one has reportedly been bound for Nexa dealerships while the other is destined for regular Arena outlets.

The range-topping premium SUV will more likely be sold from Nexa showrooms. It could be the next generation global Vitara expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo offering space for seven people. Maruti Suzuki does not have a challenger for Hyundai Creta currently and it rides on the momentum created by Vitara Brezza, the best-selling SUV in the country.

The next-gen Vitara is the logical step for expansion and we will have to wait and see what Maruti Suzuki comes up with. We predict the market launch to be in early 2020 after premiering at the Auto Expo.

The Concept Future S based production model is believed to cater for masses in the micro SUV segment by rivalling Mahindra KUV100 and upcoming Tata Hornbill. It could go on sale towards the end of this year.
