Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the updated Ertiga and XL6, heavily revised Brezza and Baleno CNG within the next two months in India
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been on a launch spree in recent months as the arrival of the second generation Celerio in late 2021 was followed by Celerio CNG, updated WagonR, Dzire CNG and heavily revised Baleno. In April 2022, the largest car producer in the country is expected to launch the mid-life updates for the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs.
They will be powered by a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C petrol engine developing around 115 hp and it will be mated to a five-speed manual or a new six-speed torque converter automatic unit with paddle shifting function replacing the four-speed AT as an option. The 2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6 could be made available in six- and seven-seater configurations.
The Indo-Japanese manufacturer will likely introduce the new generation Brezza around June 2022 with a slew of changes inside and out. By the middle of this calendar year, Maruti Suzuki is expected to bring in the Baleno CNG while the Ignis and S-Presso will get a new DualJet petrol engine that has seen an expansion in the latest launches.
In the Baleno, the 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N petrol engine produces 90 PS maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission as standard or a five-speed AMT as an option. The factory-fitted CNG version is expected to be offered only with the manual gearbox in the premium hatchback.
In late 2022, Maruti Suzuki will launch an all-new midsize SUV developed in collaboration with Toyota. It will be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform and is expected to be equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with strong hybrid tech and a dedicated EV-only mode that could aid in covering short distances in battery power alone.
The styling of the Maruti Suzuki midsize SUV could be influenced by the A-Cross sold in the global markets and is in turn a rebadged version of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. MSIL also appears to have a new compact SUV coupe based on the Baleno’s architecture in the works while the long-awaited Jimny lifestyle off-roader may arrive in 2023.
