Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Brezza CNG, Fronx compact SUV coupe and Jimny lifestyle off-road SUV this year in India
Maruti Suzuki appears to be working on launching as many as three SUVs this calendar year and all of them were showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo last month in Greater Noida. The largest car producer in the country will bring in the Brezza CNG sooner rather than later. It will become the first compact SUV to feature a CNG powertrain giving it a significant advantage over its rivals.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG will derive power from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and it will be paired with a five-speed manual transmission. To appeal to a wide range of customers, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer will offer the Brezza CNG in multiple variants. It will have no exterior changes except for the addition of the S-CNG badge at the rear.
The brand commenced bookings for the Fronx and Jimny last month ahead of their showrooms entry and both have amassed over 20,000 reservations. The former is a compact SUV coupe and will be retailed exclusively through Nexa premium dealerships while the latter is a lifestyle off-road SUV and it will take on the upcoming five-door Mahindra Thar.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is based on the same lightweight Heartect platform as the Baleno premium hatchback, which received a big upgrade twelve months ago. The Fronx has a distinctive appeal courtesy of drawing design inspiration from the Grand Vitara as the upright front fascia comprises a prominent grille and the coupe-like roofline can be clearly seen from the sides.
In addition, the features list will mimic the Baleno as a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags, automatic climate control, steering wheel with mounted controls, a 360-degree camera system and a lot more will be available. Another uniqueness to the Fronx is the arrival of a new 1.0L three-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
It will be sold alongside the 1.2L petrol engine. The Jimny, on the other hand, will be available only with a 1.5L petrol engine, paired with a five-speed MT or a four-speed AT sending power to all four wheels as standard. The five-door SUV has larger proportions than the global model and it will go on sale around May or June 2023 while the Fronx will arrive in April.
