Maruti Suzuki sold 1 lakh mild hybrids in India via Ciaz and Ertiga; plans to spread the technology across other models in the portfolio
India’s biggest auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has sold over 1 lakh SHVS technology incorporated vehicles in the domestic market since their launch. Currently, the automaker Ciaz sedan and the Ertiga MPV with mild hybrid tech.
The SHVS mild hybrid technology was first introduced to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan and later the Ertiga also received it in September 2015. The Indo-Japanese company claims that the SHVS technology now accounts for 60% – 65% of total volumes for these two cars.
The SHVS technology incorporates an integrated starter generator to the car that works alongside the internal combustion engine. The ISG generates energy while braking and stores that in a battery fitted to the car. This energy is used when the vehicle is running and kicks out additional torque during acceleration. Thus, the SHVS mild hybrid technology improves fuel efficiency and also reduces emission level.

The sharp styling, premium features inside the cabin enhance the sedan’s appeal further. The car is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.3-litre diesel engine comes combined with the ISG and it returns impressive 28.09 kmpl of fuel efficiency.
In the MPV segment Toyota Innova Crysta is certainly the leader, but Maruti Suzuki has its own offering in form of Ertiga that has been quite popular indeed. This car is also offered with the ISG combined to the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that returns 24.52 kmpl of fuel efficiency.
