Indian auto market is about to experience the launch of several interesting models in next couple of months. Some of them are brand new cars, while some are facelifted versions of existing models. Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the facelifted version of its crossover S-Cross. This car is ready to hit the domestic market in the last week of September and it arrives with a revised and more attractive appearance compared to the current model.
Like the current model, 2017 S-Cross will be offered through the premium Nexa retail chain. Despite being a premium product, Maruti Suzuki couldn’t fetch desired sales result with this car. But, with the facelift, Maruti Suzuki hopes to see a sales surge. The current model sells around 2,500 units per month on an average and the facelifted S-Cross is expected to sell around 3,500 units per month.
Renault India has already teased the crossover ahead of its launch. Unveiled at 2016 Sao Paulo Motor Show, this Captur is likely to hit the showrooms in India during Diwali, the time when the country’s auto market sees a significant sales surge. Upon arrival, this is going to be the new flagship model from the brand and it would be priced in the Rs. 10 lakh – Rs. 15 lakh slab.

Indian customers are certainly showing more interest towards premium products but they are keen to choose the right ones too. While buying an SUV, power and torque output play crucial role and Captur do get ahead in those respects but you have to pay a premium for that.
However, you compromise on certain bits as the build quality is not that great while lacking features like 60:40 split seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay over the S-Cross. The S-Cross primarily rivals the Duster which has identical powertrain lineup as its flaunting premium cousin the Captur and it will satisfy you if power is what you’re after at lesser price.
The S-Cross will grab attention of the buyers as it is far less expensive than the Captur. It is for the customers who seek an affordable crossover with sub-10 lakh pricing and thanks to its diesel mild hybrid powertrain, this car offers an impressive fuel efficiency and in fact more features. Renault would be depending on the Captur very much to boost its sales in the domestic market but against S-Cross we doubt its approval.
