When in 2015 they launched the S-Cross premium crossover in India, it generated mixed reaction from the automotive community. Aesthetically the car doesn’t look good, but it is practical. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is based on the SX4 compact sedan, which was replaced by the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is available in dual engine options, a 1.6 litre DDiS 320 diesel and a 1.3 litre DDiS 200 diesel engine. The car is offered in four different trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. While the DDiS 320 variant gets all the four trims, the DDiS 200 variant comes sans the Sigma trim. Sigma is the base variant, while the Alpha being the top end trim gets all the features, and therefore the highest price tag in the S-Cross lineup.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross offers dual engine options, with one being the 1.6 litre DDiS 320 four cylinder DOHC diesel engine with displacement of 1598 cc. This engine is paired with a six speed manual transmission generating 120 PS peak power at 3750 rpm and 320 Nm of peak torque at 1750 rpm.

On the other hand the other variant gets a 1.3 litre DDiS 200 four cylinder DOHC diesel engine with displacement of 1248 cc, which gets mated to a five speed manual transmission and churns out 90 PS peak power at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1750 rpm. Both the variants come with 2WD mode only.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross DDiS 320 comes with a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.70 kmpl. On the other hand, the S-Cross DDiS 200 delivers a claimed fuel economy of 2365 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross gets a length of 4300 mm, 1765 mm of width, 1590 mm of height, and a wheelbase of 2600 mm. It sports a ground clearance of 180 mm. The five adult occupants seating capacitated premium crossover gets a boot space of 353 litres which can be expanded up to 810 litres. It comes with a turning radius of 5.2 metre and 48 litres of fuel tank capacity.

The DDiS 320 variant of S-Cross gets kerb weight between 1250 kg – 1275 kg, while the DDiS 200 variant gets a kerb weight between 1180 kg – 1205 kg.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross comes with lot of similarities with the SX4 compact sedan. Compare to the sedan the S-Cross gets 15 cm longer body. The car doesn’t boast a stylish fascia, but it is definitely practical. The front gets a dual chrome slat at the grille, HID projector headlamps, skid plate, fog lamps.

The side profile of the car sports sharp character lines, which along with the plastic body cladding, alloy wheels, and silver scuff plates make the car bold looking. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross gets a five occupant seating cabin, which is practical and stylish. The interior gets a multifunction steering wheel, dual analog dials and a digital display consisting instrument cluster. The hexagonal centre console gets a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system. The entire cabin dons a blackened theme, which is sporty. The front seats get an armrest at the middle, while the rear passengers also get an armrest which can be folded to afford the middle occupant at the rear.

The interior is quite spacious and comfortable for the rear occupants offering sufficient leg space and headroom. The 353 litres of boot space offer plenty of space for the luggage, and if you ask for more, you can expand it up to 810 litres with the rear seats folded.

The Delta trim gets roof rails at exterior, while the interior sports illumination for luggage space, front foot well and glove box. On the safety front the car sports Anti theft security system, TECT body, disc brakes, reverser parking sensors.
