Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.5L Petrol Version Launch Nears

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol Hybrid

Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce the new 1.5 L petrol engine on S-Cross soon and it comes with SHVS system to improve efficiency

Maruti Suzuki introduced S-Cross with great expectations and it was the first model sold through premium Nexa dealerships. Initially, the crossover was offered with two diesel engines options and they were priced at a premium. Maruti was quick to realize that pricing was not right and they reduced the price.

The company gave back money to initial customers after the price drop, but coke in the bottle was styling as the crossover appealed to prospective buyers as a grown-up hatchback. Maruti introduced the facelift model last year and the updated styling gives an aggressive fascia, which helped the model to become popular among people.

The sales of S-Cross are steadily rising each month, even though enthusiasts miss the punchy 1.6 L diesel engine. Now the company is planning to expand the portfolio of S-Cross with the new 1.5 L petrol engine debuted with Ciaz. The launch is expected to take place in December or January as the new generation Ertiga is coming next month.

The newly developed 1.5 L petrol engine puts out 104.7 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The power is sent to front wheels via 5-speed manual and the company might introduce an auto gearbox also. This engine also gets SHVS mild-hybrid system to increase fuel efficiency and it is expected to return 18 kmpl.

The S-Cross will become the most fuel efficient petrol compact crossover in India. The ride and handling package along with variant lineup is expected to be similar to diesel model and it comes with lots of features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, cruise control, reverse camera and more.

Some of the safety features include dual airbags, ABS, EBD and speed alert. We can expect Maruti to price the petrol model aggressively and it will help the company to improve sales. The 1.3 L diesel engine on S-Cross is also expected to be replaced by the end of next year with a new 1.5 L unit currently under development.
