The three upcoming products expected in the Maruti Suzuki Nexa showrooms are facelifts of S-Cross and Ciaz as well as the flagship Vitara S

Maruti Suzuki has managed to cross over 1.5 million units of sale in FY2016-17. Traditionally known for its superlative volume numbers in the entry-level small car space, a little digging into the details will give you idea of what has changed in the last financial year.

Maruti’s 10.7 percent increase in domestic sales was largely attributed to the success of the newcomers such as Vitara Brezza and Baleno along with the Ciaz sedan. When the leading automaker in the country began establishing Nexa premium dealerships a couple of years ago, there was a huge doubt caste on its long-term popularity as Maruti did not have much to offer in its portfolio for the higher segment.

2017 Suzuki S-Cross

When the debutant S-Cross had a rather underwhelming start, Maruti reacted quickly and introduced the Hyundai Elite i20-rivalling Baleno. It did swing the fortunes around for Nexa and due to price cuts S-Cross got on with decent turn of sales as well.

In the foreseeable future, products featured at Nexa are key for the compounded annual growth rate of 10 percent predicted until 2020 and to achieve the brand’s goal of making two million cars a year as part of Vision 2.0. Following the Baleno, the Ignis urban compact made its way into Nexa and it has been doing well so far.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift India

The biggest move Maruti Suzuki has made is switching the Ciaz to where it belongs as from the beginning of this month it is being sold from Nexa. It bodes well for the premium theme of Nexa that has been expanded to over 250 outlets in a short space of time.

It looks like Maruti seems to be further strengthening the offerings from Nexa as a flagship product and two other facelifts are planned. First in the pipeline is the S-Cross facelift receiving cosmetic updates similar to the Euro-spec version and there will be interior add-ons too to make it a more attractive offering.

The most significant Nexa product expected in late 2018 is the Vitara S. Like the RS version of Baleno, the Vitara S could be the top-spec offering powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection producing 140 PS power and 220 Nm of peak torque available from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.
