Maruti Suzuki Likely to Launch Sporty Avatar of New Ertiga in Mid-2019

Suzuki Ertiga Sport Concept GIIAS 2018 1

Based on the recently unveiled Suzuki Sport Concept, the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Sport will launch in India by the middle of next year

Suzuki Motor Corp. unveiled the all-new Suzuki Sport Concept at the recently conducted 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, which was held from 2-12 August 2018. The new Suzuki Sport Concept is basically a sportier version of the India-bound 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV.

While the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is about to launch in India, our sources reveal that the recently revealed concept will give birth to the Ertiga Sports that will launch in India by the middle of next year.

The Ertiga Sports will carry a slew of styling updates for its exterior and interior, which will all come together to infuse some sportiness with the new generation of company’s highly popular MPV. On the outside, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Sports will come with a blacked-out grille, new 16-inch alloy wheels shod with low profile tires, smoked headlamps and a sporty body kit. The suspension will be updated in favour of sharper handling. The MPV will be lowered, too.

Powering the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Sports will be the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder K15B petrol engine that powers the regular version of the MPV. This engine outputs a maximum power of 104 bhp along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a four-speed automatic as optional. This engine will make its India debut on the upcoming Maruti Ciaz facelift. There won’t be any diesel engine option for the Ertiga Sports.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Sports shares the lightweight HEARTECT platform with the regular MPV. Also, like the latest generation of the popular MPV, the Ertiga Sports is both larger and more spacious than the India-spec Ertiga. It’s also better equipped and offers a more premium cabin.

The new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will be positioned at a higher price point than the current-gen MPV. Expect prices to start around Rs 7 lakh. The India-bound Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Sports will be even costlier. It will be available only in the top-end trim and safely expect it to cost roughly Rs 11 lakh.
