Maruti Suzuki has increased the price of its entry-level model Alto 800 by Rs. 10,000 across variants and Rs. 7,000 for the Alto K10. The price hike comes into effect from today onwards and the Alto 800 now starts at Rs. 2.62 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
The entry-level LX variant of Alto K10 price starts at Rs. 3.38 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) after the price hike. The company hiked price because of the increase in commodity prices and rising foreign exchange rates as officially announced earlier today.
The Alto is the second best selling model of Maruti Suzuki in 2018 and the entry-level model ended last year on a high note as the company sold 25,121 units to take the lead in December 2018. The Alto also posted Year-on-Year growth of 23 per cent when compared to December 2017 while the Month-On-Month growth stands at 35 per cent.
The price hike is around 3-4% and we are expecting that sales might be affected. Maruti might introduce some limited edition models this year to improve sales as they want to continue positive momentum from last year. The Alto is currently leading the entry-level segment in India.
The Alto 800 is powered by 796 cc 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 47 PS of power and 69 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. According to ARAI, the Alto 800 returns 24.7 kmpl. The hatchback is available in four variants – STD, LX, LXI and VXI. The company also offers an additional optional variant, which comes with a driver-side airbag.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is powered by 1.0 L K-Series engine with 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque, mated to 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The claimed mileage figure for both models is 24.07 kmpl. Some earlier reports indicated that the company is working on next generation of Alto and it could be introduced at 2020 Auto Expo.
