2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 BS6 delivery has commenced in India; comes with updated exterior and interior alongside the mechanical changes
On the 23rd of April 2019, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) introduced the updated version of its highly popular Alto 800. While it was thought to be phased out of production due to the oncoming BNVSAP crash test and BS6 regulations, its reign has continued on as the exterior changes are accompanied by the inclusion of a BS6 engine.
The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is priced at Rs. 2.93 lakh for the Std variant, Rs. 3.50 lakh for LXi and Rs. 3.71 lakh for VXi (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Amidst automobile manufacturers making moves to upgrade their powertrains to meet BS6 emission standards, Maruti Suzuki has become the first mainstream brand to launch a product with such compliance.
The first BS6 Alto 800 has indeed been delivered as you can see in the pictures. The Alto 800 BSVI came right after Maruti Suzuki presented the Baleno 1.2-litre Dualjet BS6 petrol motor and the updated Alto K10 with improved safety features.
The 2019 Alto 800 takes power from a 796 cc three-cylinder petrol engine developing a maximum power output of 48 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm of peak torque delivered at 3,500 rpm. It is connected to a five-speed manual transmission with a claimed fuel economy of 22.05 kmpl.
The BS6 engine reduces nearly 25 per cent of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and it was achieved courtesy of engine hardware and software upgrades with an improved exhaust system. Moreover, the 2019 Alto 800 can be 85 per cent recyclable and 95 per cent recoverable as part of complying with End of Life Vehicles (ELV) obligations.
The new Alto 800 has a revised front fascia with a new grille, hexagonal mesh pattern, newly designed bumpers and side fenders while 800 and Maruti Suzuki badges at the rear have been removed. On the inside, the small hatch adorns a dual-tone appeal with new AC vents and bottle holders.
Keyless entry and a new Smart Play Dock infotainment system (Bluetooth enabled) are other notable additions. The new safety package comprises of standard features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), reversing sensors, driver airbag, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder and speed alert function.
