Maruti Suzuki Ertiga impressed yet again by registering 76 per cent YoY sales growth in June 2019

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) sold 65,263 units of the Ertiga in FY2018-19 with 32,325 accounting for the petrol variants and 32,938 for the diesel versions at almost 50 per cent for each fuel option. The seven-seater is priced between Rs. 7.44 lakh and Rs. 11.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and it takes power from 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.3-litre diesel powertrains.

The arrival of the second generation model has been a major boost for the largest carmaker in the country. Maruti Suzuki introduced the new-gen Ertiga in November 2018 with heavily updated exterior and interior while the features list was upgraded to offer more premium equipment onboard.

The MPV has lived up to the expectations of its predecessor that was in the business for nearly a decade. Right from the start of 2019, the Ertiga posted appreciable monthly volume tally as 9,352 units were retailed in January and it was followed by more than 8,000 units each month on average basis consecutively.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5 Diesel Launched India

Maruti Suzuki has been facing sales slump over the last five months on the trot but the Ertiga wasn’t too much affected. In June 2019, the seven-seater registered 7,567 units as against 4,311 units during the same month last year. This resulted in a massive 76 per cent YoY sales growth and it was the highest within the portfolio last month.

Utilising the Ertiga’s popularity, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Cross variant next month and is expected to be offered only with the 1.5-litre SHVS K15B petrol engine. It will be sold through the premium Nexa dealerships and to have a clear differentiation it will likely be offered with the second-row captain seating arrangement.

In addition, exterior and interior updates are also believed to be in the pipeline. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder smart-hybrid petrol engine pumps out 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque and is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque automatic transmission.
