The second generation Ertiga is based on the lightweight Heartect platform and it gets a new 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) launched the second generation Ertiga in November 2018. Having big shoes to fill, as its predecessor was a huge success for more than six years with consistent sales numbers, the new Ertiga made a decent start to its lifespan by garnering 6,362 units in its launch month and closed the year on a high note with 7,155 units.
As expected, the seven-seater has started its 2019 campaign well by registering 6,352 and 7,975 units in January and February respectively. Its last month sales tally of nearly 8,000 units has been the highest the MPV has achieved in the last one year. Considering the four months since its market debut, its sales have grown by a massive 40 per cent.
The growth rate is the sign of the new-gen Ertiga’s instant popularity and is expected to be sustained in the coming months as well. Based on the lightweight Heartect architecture, the new Ertiga has grown in dimensions with improved handling characteristics.

The exterior is sharper than before with a sportier yet matured MPV styling and the interior has become more premium with the addition of new standard safety features and modern equipment. As for the performance, a new 1.5-litre k15B four-cylinder petrol engine with SHVS technology produces 104.7 PS and 138 Nm.
The powertrain debuted in the facelifted Ciaz before plonked on to the Ertiga and is connected to a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Maruti Suzuki sells the Ertiga in the price range of Rs. 7.44-10.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and is expected to get a six-seater cross variant with upgraded exterior and interior bits.
It will likely sit at the top of the range and be sold only through Nexa dealerships. A GT variant could also arrive in the near future as Suzuki will be expanding its reach into Southeast Asian markets first.
