2019 Maruti Ertiga posted 72 per cent Year-On-Year growth in February and it was the best selling MPV in India last month

Maruti Suzuki sold 7,975 unit sof Ertiga in February compared to 4,645 units in the same month last year and registered 72 per cent Year-On-Year growth. The MPV has also posted 26 per cent Month-On-Month growth and it is currently the best selling MPV in India beating Innova Crysta, Mahindra Marazzo. The second-generation Ertiga was introduced towards the end of November 2018.

The 2019 Ertiga is based on the advanced Heartect platform and It is longer, wider and taller than earlier model. The MPV measures 4,395 mm length, 1,735 mm width and 1,690 mm in height. The company hasn’t changed the wheelbase of new Ertiga and it is 2,740 mm.

But the company has increased space especially in the second and third row as Maruti is also looking at fleet buyers with the new model. The boot space of the new generation Ertiga is 209 litres and it can be expanded to 803 litres by folding down seats.

The Ertiga is the second model in Maruti’s lineup to get the newly developed 1.5 L petrol engine with dual battery set up and it produces 105 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and 4-speed auto gearbox. The company has added Smart Hybrid system, which comes with auto start/stops and brake energy recovery system.

The company is also developing a new 1.5 L diesel engine to replace the current 1.3 L engine sourced from Fiat and it produces 95 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. This engine will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The current 1.3 L engine puts out 89 PS and 200 Nm. Maruti has given a new design for the Ertiga with a new front grille and projector headlamps set up. The rear gets LED tail lamp and a new bumper. The interior is loaded with lots of features and the company is planning to introduce a new premium variant of Ertiga, which will be sold via Nexa dealerships.
