Maruti launched the Ertiga with new 1.5 L diesel engine and it produces 95.15 PS of power and 225 Nm of torque, mated to 6-speed manual gearbox
Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the Ertiga with new 1.5 L diesel engine in India at Rs. 9.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is offered in three variants: VDi, ZDi and ZDi+. The top-spec ZDi+ model costs Rs. 11.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new diesel engine was first introduced in Ciaz recently. The 1.5 L diesel engine produces 95.15 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm.
This engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and is claimed to return 24.20 kmpl. Maruti had long been offering the Ertiga with 1.3 L diesel engine sourced from Fiat and it produced 89 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. This engine was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and according to ARAI, this engine returned 25.47 Kmpl. Since it could not be upgraded to meet BSVI emission norms, the newly developed 1.5-litre DDiS 225 has replaced it.
The new diesel engine doesn’t come with Smart Hybrid system like the outgoing model but it does not affect the efficiency figures by a big margin. The engineers have focused a lot on refinement with this new 1.5 L diesel engine as it gets Dual Mass Flywheel (DMS) and optimised compression ratio, which will reduce engine fluctuations. Maruti says the high-efficiency turbocharger works to optimise peak torque generation from a lower rpm.
|Ertiga 1.5-litre Diesel Price||Price (Ex-showroom, Delhi)|
|VDi||Rs. 9.86 lakh|
|ZDi||Rs. 10.69 lakh|
|ZDi+||Rs. 11.20 lakh|
Moreover, the pendulum type engine mounting is claimed to add “superior ride quality” with lower NVH levels. Apart from this, the company hasn’t made any changes to the new Ertiga. The MPV also comes with 1.5 L petrol engine, which is again a new engine developed and it puts out 104.69 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.
The new generation Ertiga is based on advanced Heartect platform and it is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 5 mm taller than earlier model. But the wheelbase of 2,740 mm is the same for both models and the company has focused on improving space on the second and third row. The boot space is 209 litres, which can be expanded to 803 litres.
The company also offers 50:50 split seat option for the third row and 60:40 split option for the second row. The design theme of Ertiga is new as it gets big projector headlamps and new vertically placed tail lamps at the rear with a new bumper. The interior design is also new and the MPV is packed with lots of features in its latest generation.
The Ertiga is the best-selling MPV in its segment with 39 per cent market share and has crossed over 40,000 unit sales in just over 5 months of its launch, as the new-gen model was introduced in November 2018, at a YoY growth of over 150 per cent.
