Maruti Suzuki Cuts Ertiga Production Ahead Of 2019 Ertiga's Launch

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the new generation Ertiga sometime next month with thorough revisions to the exterior and interior

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has lined up the new generation Ertiga for launch likely by the end of next month. Ahead of its introduction, the existing Ertiga’s production is gradually being slowed down to make way for the new model. The largest carmaker in India appears to be providing great deal of offers on the Ertiga as up to Rs. 70,000 discount is available.

The Ertiga has averaged over 4,700 unit sales in the last twelve months but it hit the lowest of all months in September 2018 when a total of 3,926 examples were sold across the country. Compared to the same month last year, the Ertiga posted 31 percent sales slump while registering 12 percent increase in comparison to August 2018.

The statistics almost suggest that Maruti Suzuki is slimming down the Ertiga’s production ahead of the new model’s arrival. With Mahindra Marazzo having joined the fray at an aggressive price bracket to target top-end variants of Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki is bringing in the dimensionally bigger new version following its debut earlier this year in Indonesia.

The upcoming Ertiga measures 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and stands 5 mm taller with identical wheelbase of 2,740 mm as the existing model. However, the bootspace is reduced by 32 litres and the ground clearance goes down by 5 mm. Based on the new Heartect platform, the new Ertiga is lighter and is said to provide better ride and comfort.

With a thoroughly revised exterior, it will likely address customers from Rs. 7 lakh and up to Rs. 11 lakh(ex-showroom). Another key addition is the newly developed 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol engine that can also be found in the recently facelifted Ciaz. It produces a maximum power of 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm.

It is connected to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. While the restyled exterior will ensure appealing road presence, the more premium interior will act as another USP of the new Ertiga. It features flat bottom steering wheel, touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, upmarket faux wooden inserts and so on.
