Maruti Suzuki Baleno Diesel SHVS Will Launch Next Year – Report

Baleno diesel SHVS comprises of the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine combined with SHVS technology that can already be found in Ciaz and Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki Baleno is all set to get diesel SHVS mild-hybrid technology next year. With SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology the car will get fuel efficiency benefits, as well as it will be environment friendly as well. Therefore, Baleno SHVS will be eligible to benefit from Indian government’s FAME scheme, with which the car will get a subsidy of around Rs. 13,000.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine is a 1.3-litre DDiS unit, which churns out 75 PS of peak power and 190 Nm of peak torque. This same engine is available in Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Ertiga as well, and both the cars are offered with SHVS technology.

Presently, Baleno premium hatchback delivers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.39 kmpl, and with the SHVS mild-hybrid technology on-board it will increase by up to 10%. Indo-Japanese automaker’s SHVS technology gets an integrated starter generator, brake energy recuperation system and auto start-stop system. Maruti Suzuki has seen immense success with the Baleno premium hatchback. With introduction of SHVS technology to the car it is expected to become more appealing.

Baleno premium hatchback has become one of the bestselling and most popular car from the automaker in recent times since its launch in October 2015. In first six months of FY2016 Baleno has sold 22,997 units. The car is sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium car dealership NEXA, which also sells S-Cross.

Apart from working on Baleno diesel SHVS, Maruti Suzuki is also preparing to launch a sportier version of the premium hatchback. The car will come sporting a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine under the hood. The engine is capable to kick out 112 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque in comparison 85 PS of peak power and 115 Nm of peak torque generated by the outgoing model’s 1.2-litre petrol engine.
