Maruti Suzuki achieves 1.5 million sales milestone in FY2016-17 as new products like Baleno and Vitara Brezza have reaped benefits
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has sold a total of 139,763 units last month including 127,999 units in the domestic market and 11,764 examples being exported. The Indo-Japanese brand achieved more than 10,000 units than what it managed in the same month last year with 129,345 units. It underlines the dominant wave of momentum in which the leading automaker in the country has been riding on.
On a bigger picture, Maruti Suzuki ended the financial year (FY2016-17) recording its highest ever sales in history. At a phenomenal surge of 9.8 percent, it accomplished a total of 1,568,603 units with highest ever sales of 1,444,541 units while the export sales stood at 124,062 units. This newest achievement from Maruti Suzuki is attributed by the recent ventures into segments it had not been present before with its latest products.

The Baleno premium hatchback became an instant sales driver when it was introduced at the end of October 2015 following the S-Cross crossover in Nexa outlets. While the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV took the segment by storm and quickly rose to the fame in the overall passenger UV space, the Ignis urban compact has done its fair share of justice since its arrival at the beginning of this year.
The entry-level small car segment has taken the major credits traditionally in terms of total sales but between April 2016 and March 2017 the bestselling Alto and WagonR posted a downfall of 4.4 percent in sales. However, Maruti has more than made up for the loss in the compact vehicle space as 7.9 percent growth was registered. The major sales jump came courtesy of the Ciaz as 64,448 deliveries were made against 54,233 in the same 12 month period in FY2015-16 at a growth of 18.8 percent.

What stood out in the entire sale chart was the progress made in the utility segment as the large contribution of Vitara Brezza elevated the sales from 94,416 units to 1,95,741 units at a superlative growth of 107.3 percent. Overall, Maruti’s domestic sales in FY2016-17 increased by a highly appreciable 10.7 percent.
