Maruti Suzuki achieved impressive sales in May 2023, with 28,000 units of Baleno and Fronx sold, showcasing their popularity in the Indian market
Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in the Indian market, has reported impressive sales figures for the month of May 2023. The company sold a total of 18,733 units of the popular Baleno hatchback and 9,863 units of the newly launched Fronx crossover. The sales performance highlights the strong demand for both models among customers.
The Baleno, positioned in the premium hatchback segment, continues to attract buyers with its stylish design and feature-rich offerings. In fact, it was the highest-selling vehicle in India last month! Powering the Baleno is a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, delivering 89 bhp, available with a choice between a 5-speed MT and a CVT. You can also get a CNG option, rated at 76 bhp, paired with just the manual transmission.
Maruti Fronx, based on the same Heartect platform as Baleno, features the same interior design (with a different colour theme) and gets the same features and equipment – a 9.0-inch touchscreen, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, climate control, etc. The exterior design features plenty of changes though – the Fronx is taller due to the higher ground clearance, and it gets a larger grille, plastic cladding, split headlamp design, and thin tail-lamps connected by an LED light bar.
There’s another difference under the hood; apart from the 1.2L NA petrol engine, buyers can opt for a 1.0L turbo-petrol motor (99 bhp), which also gets a 48V mild-hybrid system. This motor can be had with a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. This powertrain is powerful, fun to drive, and quite fuel-efficient!
The success of the Baleno and the early positive response to the Fronx demonstrate Maruti Suzuki’s ability to cater to different customer preferences and maintain a strong presence in multiple market segments. With competitive pricing ranging between Rs. 6.61 lakh and Rs. 9.88 lakh for the Baleno and Rs. 7.46 lakh to Rs. 13.13 lakh for the Fronx (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi), these models offer compelling options to Indian car buyers.
Maruti Suzuki’s strong sales performance in May 2023 reinforces its position as a leader in the Indian automotive market. While the Baleno has always been a top seller for the Indo-Japanese brand, it’s interesting to see the Fronx sell in such strong numbers in such a short time.
