Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce the new 1.5 L petrol engine with Smart Hybrid technology from Ciaz in S-Cross soon, likely by Feb 2019
Maruti Suzuki introduced the S-Cross facelift model last year with design changes at the front to make the model aggressive has helped the crossover to improve sales considerably. But the S-Cross engine line up only includes one diesel engine as the company decided to discontinue the powerful 1.6 L unit because of low demand.
The new 1.5 L Petrol engine made its debut in the Ciaz facelift model is coming to S-Cross as per our sources and it will open the crossover to a bigger audience. In most of the segments, petrol models are the prefered option among customers because of the lower sticker price and maintenance cost compared to diesel.
The S-Cross diesel range starts from Rs. 8.6 lakh and we can expect the base petrol model to be priced at least Rs. 50,000 cheaper. The K15B 1.5 L petrol engine produces 104.7 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The power is sent to front wheels via 5-speed manual and 4-speed auto.
To improve efficiency, Maruti has given SHVS technology with this petrol engine and the S-Cross return 18 kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient crossover in the country. Like the Ciaz, Maruti is expected to introduce the dual battery setup in which Li-ion battery will power instrument cluster, music system and other electrical parts.
The regular lead acid battery will be used only for AC and headlamps, the dual battery will be introduced in other models in future. The company won’t make any design changes for the petrol model and it might be offered in the same variant line up as sales will continue from premium Nexa dealerships.
The S-Cross petrol model will be loaded with features like touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, push-button start, electronically controlled mirrors, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, reverse camera, airbags, ABS, EBD and more.
