Maruti Ertiga Cross, Electric Wagon R to be Sold from NEXA Dealerships

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross could be launched in India in the coming months while the Wagon R EV is slated for arrival next year

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is gearing up to launch several new products during the course of this year. As the overall industry trend has led to sales decline across the board, manufacturers are trying to make up the deficit by introducing new vehicles and MSIL is not an exception. The largest automaker in the country is working on bringing in BSVI compliant products as well.

The Indo-Japanese brand has been active for months by adding in BSVI compliant engines as the Alto 800 and Baleno received upgraded powertrains. The long-serving 1.2-litre K-series VVT unit has also been upgraded in the Swift, Dzire and Wagon R in advance. Moreover, the Ertiga’s range was strengthened with the debut of the 1.5-litre DDiS 225 unit that was first introduced in the Ciaz.

The seven-seater MPV has been around for nearly a decade but gained a brand new generation only late last year. With substantial exterior and interior changes, the second-gen MPV has been able to fill in the shoes of its predecessor by dominating the segment again. Utilising its popularity, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Cross variant in the coming months.

It will likely come with second-row captain seating arrangement and will have noticeable exterior tweaks. To rival against the likes of Renault Kwid and Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki is preparing a micro SUV based on the Concept Future S for arrival this festive season while the petrol-powered Vitara Brezza accompanying a facelift is also expected to make its presence felt down the line.

The Ertiga Cross could get more upmarket features and it will likely be retailed from the Nexa premium dealerships. As will be the case with the electric Wagon R, as two new products are waiting to enter the premium showrooms.

The India-spec Wagon R EV is already on pilot testing and it will be launched sometime next year. Based on the JDM Wagon R, the zero-emission hatchback is expected to be priced around Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki is planning to expand Nexa dealerships aggressively next year and the addition of new products will only help its cause.
