The most popular car last year the Maruti Dzire, which garnered 264,612 unit sales. The tenth spot was occupied with the Maruti Celerio, with a total sale of 100,957 units, while the very popular Hyundai Creta was at the ninth place with an overall sale of 120,905 units.
A signal of the increasing buying power and the gradual shift from budget hatchbacks to bigger cars is indicated by the fact that the Maruti Alto is no longer the sales leader. Last year, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest selling carmaker could manage to sell 256,661 units of the Alto 800 and the Alto K10. The Dzire, with a total sale of 264,612 units easily outsold its cheaper stablemate.
The top 6 slots on the list of 10 Cars That Clocked 1 Lakh+ Sales in 2018 includes cars from Maruti Suzuki. Even the tenth slot is occupied by a Maruti Suzuki model. The remaining three slots are held by Hyundai, which is the second largest selling carmaker in the country.
Also, with a total sale of 141,104 units, the Hyundai Elite i20 overtakes the Hyundai Grand i10 on the yearly sales charts. The second generation i10, which will be soon replaced with an all-new model, sold 134,249 units. The third Korean model in the list is the Hyundai Korea with a yearly sale of 120,905 units. The Creta s the only SUV other the Maruti Vitara Brezza to have made it to this list.

In spite of having seven models in the list of 10 cars that clocked 1 lakh+ sales in 2018, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has reported a 2.97% decrease in the car sale in December 2018. On the other hand, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, which launched the new Santro and the Creta facelift last year, has reported a 4.82% rise in sale in the last month of the previous year.
