The recently launched Maruti Suzuki Baleno carries so much expectation up its sleeves especially with the bookings vaulting to 5,000 within four days of its debut. With the attractive price tag of Rs. 4.99 lakh for the base Sigma variant, not many people know that it comes with a totally different grille compared to other three variants. The Baleno premium hatchback has certainly been a head-turner and will be offered in nine variants across four trim levels (Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha), under two engine categories including CVT petrol engines.

We have come up with the Design & Features comparison of Baleno base variant “Sigma” with the Top end “Alpha” in order to make potential buyers aware of what’s really in store. So, will the price difference of Rs.2.4 lakhs among the variants be justified? Let’s find out in the detailed pictorial comparison below.

Styling:

The Baleno premium hatchback’s base variant apparently gets the most basic of options with the headlights devoid of the more sleeky appearance compared to Alpha top-trim. On the design front, it gets dual-slat grille, body-coloured door handles, wing mirrors, bumpers, boot spoiler and rear combination lamps with LED.

The major visual changes between the Sigma base-end(in white) and Alpha top-end(in grey) are the dual-slat grille makes appearance in Sigma as opposed to the traditional meshed-grille in Alpha. The sleeky and more appealing headlights have been silver-lined including the bumper whilst the Sigma variant has an updated and imposing front fascia

At the rear, the design is heavily revised with the inclusion of a modified top-of-the-lid projection but the absence of rear-wiper and boot spoiler can easily be spotted in the base variant.

Interior:

The dashboard has an evolved posture with silver-lining on the edges of the display screen and pretty much everywhere else in Alpha. SmartPlay infotainment system, navigation system, voice command and Apple CarPlay are other features in the top-end.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno Sigma Variant comes with no entertainment gadgets amidst having central locking system, front power windows, tilt steering adjustable headrest for the front seat, manual AC and an accessory socket.

The top-of-the-line Alpha variant comes with multi-information speedometer with a chunky dual-dial system while the base end Sigma comes with the basic speedometer without the tachometer. Also, there are no access to the instant mileage and average fuel economy options in Sigma.

Features:

Maruti Suzuki has been cautious safety-wise as the entire line-up is loaded with much-welcoming safety features such as an anti-theft security system, ABS with EBD, dual airbags and features like front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters amongst others.

In addition to the features on Sigma, the high-end Alpha trim comes with chrome layered front grille, turn indicators on ORVMs, metal finish for inside door handles, audio provision with FM/MP3/CD, AUX & USB and Bluetooth connectivity alongside steering mounted controls.
