Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 posted 57,943 units in H1 2024 as against 80,903 units with a YoY sales de-growth of 28 per cent
The Maruti Suzuki Alto’s success in India stems from its affordability, fuel efficiency and reliability, making it an attractive choice for first-time car buyers. Its compact size and low maintenance costs suit urban driving conditions. These are some of the reasons why the Alto ruled the sales charts for several years in India but the tables have turned.
Coinciding with SUVs garnering 52 per cent market share in the overall passenger vehicle sales, the sales of several popular hatchbacks have decreased and Alto was one of them. The entry-level hatchback could only finish fifteenth with 57,943 unit sales in the first half of 2024 as against 80,903 units during the same period last year with a YoY decline of 28 per cent.
While its siblings, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Baleno and Swift finished second, third and ninth respectively, they also endured YoY volume de-growth in H1 2024. The list of top 20 most sold cars during this period features 12 SUVs, underling the popularity of the body type as the compact and midsize SUV segments garnered plenty of attention.
