Mahindra Inferno price range will likely be aggressive against main rivals Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X

Mahindra & Mahindra revitalised its presence in the MPV segment with the introduction of the Marazzo at an aggressive price range to compete against both the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and entry- to mid-level variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta. The company’s next launch is obviously the rebadged version of SsangYong Rexton commonly known as Y400.

Contrary to previous reports of its launch date clashing with one of the chief rivals Honda CR-V on October 9, the Y400 that could carry the production name Mahindra Inferno is expected to enter the market only in the later half of next month. Mahindra XUV700 price range will likely be aggressive courtesy of the high local content and it could prove to be a success formula as it may undercut Toyota Fortuner by Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.

Following the Mahindra XUV700 will be the all-new S201 subcompact SUV but its launch could only happen in early 2019. The full-sized SUV replaces the underwhelming first generation SsangYong Rexton, which is reportedly offered with huge discounts until the stocks run out.

The Mahindra Inferno is the rebadged version of latest Rexton that made debut at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show last year and sold internationally with good reception among customers. In India, it will be powered by the 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine putting out 187 horsepower and 420 Nm of peak torque. It is connected to a Mercedes-sourced seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

All-wheel-drive system will only be offered in the top-spec variants. Based on the ‘quad-frame’ construction, the Mahindra Inferno will have credible off-roading characteristics and the premium interior boasts brown Nappa leather, 9.2-inch HD touchscreen infotainment, 7.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, smart tailgate, automatic climate control and much more.

It measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and has a height of 1,800 mm with 2,865 mm wheelbase. Positioned above the XUV500 as the new flagship model, The Mahindra Inferno will have signature vertically slated front grille with Mahindra badge grafted in the middle.
