Mahindra & Mahindra introduced automatic transmission to its flagship SUV XUV500’s W6 trim, which is the cheapest trim in the model range. The automatic variant of the W6 is priced at Rs. 14.29 lakh (ex showroom, Navi Mumbai). The Mahindra XUV500 is available in four different automatic options, which are – W6 FWD, W8 FWD, W10 FWD. The top end trim of W10 is available in AWD as well.
The Indian origin automaker claims, the automatic transmission developed by the AISIN in Japan will offer smooth shifting and unique driving experience. The second generation gearbox is equipped with torque converter and a planetary gear train, which will ensure better gear shifting. This gearbox gets optimized gear ratios which will deliver improved fuel efficiency to the SUV.
In a country, where city roads are very much congested, automatic transmission relieves the driver from the hassle of pressing clutch pedal and shifting gear manually, which makes the driving smoother and convenient. In recent times the popularity and demand for automatic gearbox has been increasing rapidly.
Mahindra & Mahindra claims, the automatic variants of the XUV500 have been fetching good number of sales. Now with the introduction of automatic transmission to the lower variants will enhance the appeal further. Last week the automaker launched the automatic variant of the XUV500 in Australia.
Mahindra XUV500 W6 AT comes equipped with features like cruise control and dual front airbags on the safety front and carries the same power source of 2.2 litre 4 cylinder mHawk diesel engine, which churns out 140 bhp of peak power at 3750 rpm and 320 Nm of peak torque between 1600 – 2800 rpm. In Delhi and NCR the Mahindra XUV500 doesn’t sold with the 2.2 litre due to the Supreme Court’s ban on 2000 cc and above diesel engines. Therefore the Mahindra XUV500 is sold in Delhi and NCR with a 1.99 litre engine under the hood.
