Electric powered XUV500 will be one of the two electric models launching by 2019; could play crucial role in brand’s EV strategy

Mahindra is gearing up to launch at least two new electric vehicles in India by 2019. While one of them is the electric powered KUV100, other one is the XUV500 EV. The first model is likely to hit the market in late 2018, while the XUV500 EV is expected to arrive here by the end of 2019.

Before the launch, Mahindra could showcase the electric powered XUV500 at the 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. Upon arrival, these new electric vehicles will play crucial role in the brand’s EV strategy. Also, considering Indian government’s Mission EV 2030 that will implement zero emission pure electric mobility across the country by 2030.

With the help of this range of electric cars, Mahindra aims to hold the pole position in the Indian EV market that is expected to see a boost in coming years. Speaking about the Mahindra XUV500 EV, it could be priced at around Rs. 20 lakh and it will certainly draw energy from the powerful big battery packs that the company is currently developing.

Considering the fact that electric vehicles need a greater range to impress the buyers, expect the Mahindra XUV500 to come with a generous amount of running range. Also, despite being powered by an all-electric zero emission powertrain, XUV500 EV is expected to arrive with enough punch to be capable of doing off-roading tasks. However, the brand is yet to disclose further details about this model and we can hope to learn more about it in coming months.

Mahindra has been emphasising on the electric vehicles for quite long time. It currently sells products like e2o Plus and e-Verito in the country market along with e-Supro. The brand has already invested Rs. 500 crore for EV technology development and it aims to invest Rs. 600 crore more for the same.
