Mahindra XUV400 likely to have a 3-row seating arrangement and could share design elements with the recently launched XUV300

Mahindra kick-started the New Year with a bang as it launched the fourth sub-four-metre SUV in February. Unlike the Quanto, NuvoSport and TUV300, the XUV300 is a monocoque SUV and is based on the same X100 platform as the globally established SsangYong Tivoli.

In a different strategy compared to the flagship Alturas (Rebadged Ssangyong Rexton), Mahindra positioned the XUV300 as a genuine descendant of the XUV500. The nomenclature along with design cues that are developed taking inspiration from Cheetah stand in line with the XUV500 and it is a clever move as it garners good volume sales in initial two months beating Ford Ecosport in both months.

Customers considering the XUV300 as a more accessible alternative to the XUV500 and it comes with several segment first features like dual-zone automatic climate control system and disc brakes on all four wheels besides key equipment like sunroof, auto dimming IRVM, mild-hybrid start-stop system for fuel consumption, Electronic Stability Control, Cruise Control, leather seats, etc.

XUV400 could have a length of 4.2 metres as the SsangYong Tivoli and is believed to sit in the Rs. 11-16 lakh price bracket. Said to be codenamed S202, the SUV could become a slightly more premium alternative to the XUV300 and it is expected to compete against the next generation Hyundai Creta bowing with seven seats.
