Here we compare the Mahindra XUV300 W4 base diesel with the Vitara Brezza VDi and Ford EcoSport Ambiente to see which has the best package
Mahindra XUV300 is the newest entrant into the subcompact SUV segment that is price sensitive as well as highly competitive. It goes up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport and is offered in both petrol and diesel powertrains.
The price range in which the XUV300 would be positioned was subjected to debate for months and when Mahindra officially introduced the XUV300 on the Valentine’s Day, it did raise some eyebrows. However, the reason for the higher starting price of Rs. 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom) more than meets the eyes as Mahindra sells several standard features right from the base model.
For the fairness of the competition, here we have compared the entry-level specced XUV300 W4 diesel with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza VDi diesel and Ford EcoSport Ambiente diesel:

Ground Clearance – 180 mm | 198 mm | 200 mm |

As for the pricing between these three variants, the segment-leading Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza VDi is just over Rs. 30,000 cheaper than the XUV300 and around Rs. 9,000 than the EcoSport. However, the XUV300 is the most powerful and torquiest among the three and obliterates the competition on paper by developing 25 PS and 105 Nm more than the Brezza.
The high power and torque outputs meant the XUV300 has the comparatively lower fuel efficiency of the three at 20 kmpl while Brezza leads the segment with 24.3 kmpl and EcoSport with 100 PS power returns 23 kmpl. The XUV300 is the widest of the three and has longer wheelbase but goes down on the bootspace capacity substantially.
It only has trunk volume of 265 litres when Brezza’s at 328 and EcoSport’s at 352 litres. The EcoSport has the highest ground clearance at 200 mm and is also the tallest and longest among the three.
