Mahindra will soon launch the all-new XUV 300 in the Indian market. Based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform, the XUV 300 has become one of the most awaited vehicles in the market.
The XUV 300 promises to offer numerous first-in-segment features and segment-leading specifications. But how does it compare with the Tata Nexon on paper? Here’s a detailed specification comparison of both the SUVs.
Mahindra XUV 300 Vs Tata Nexon Engine Spec:
During the announcement of the name of the XUV 300, Mahindra said that the upcoming SUV would offer segment-leading torque figures. Mahindra will offer both petrol and diesel engine options with the XUV 300. The petrol engine powering the Mahindra 300 will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that generates 110 Bhp at 5,000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm. The all-new petrol engine will debut with the XUV 300 in the Indian market.
A 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine also powers the Tata Nexon. It generates a maximum power of 108 Bhp and a peak torque of 170 Nm. The petrol engine of the Mahindra XUV 300 is much more potent than the Tata Nexon’s engine. Both the engine options get a 6-speed manual transmission. But Tata also offers a 6-speed automatic AMT transmission with the Nexon petrol.

1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine power both Mahindra XUV 300 and Tata Nexon. The Mahindra XUV 300 gets a maximum power of 115 Bhp at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of whopping 300 Nm between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm. This power output is much more than the Tata Nexon’s 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. Tata also offers a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission with the diesel versions of the Nexon, but Mahindra XUV 300 only provides a 6-speed manual transmission.

Mahindra XUV 300 Vs Tata Nexon Mileage:
With a more powerful diesel engine, the mileage of the XUV 300 is slightly lower than the Tata Nexon. However, comparing the petrol fuel efficiency, the Mahindra XUV 300 returns the same fuel efficiency as of Nexon at 17 km/l. There is a slight difference in the ARAI fuel efficiency of both the diesel version though. The XUV 300 offers a maximum fuel efficiency of 20 km/l while the Nexon comes with 21.5 km/l of tested fuel economy.

Mahindra XUV 300 Vs Tata Nexon Dimensions:
Both are sub-4m compact SUV, but the Mahindra is slightly larger than the Tata Nexon when the proportions are compared. The all-new XUV 300 offers 3,995mm of length, 1,821mm of width and 1,617mm of height. It offers the segment-leading wheelbase of 2,600mm.
The Tata Nexon offers 3,994mm of length, 1,811mm of width and 1,607mm of height. There is a significant 102mm difference in the wheelbase, and the Nexon’s wheelbase measures 2,498mm. The Mahindra XUV 300 looks more intimidating on the roads too.

The Mahindra XUV 300 offers segment-leading features that can be compared to the vehicles from the segment above. The XUV 300 offers disc brakes on all four wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control system, steering modes, projector headlamps, 7-airbag system, ABS+EBD, sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, heated wing mirrors, idle stop/start system, leather seats, leather steering wheel, cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system and more.
The Tata Nexon, on the other hand, gets two airbags, ABS+EBD, touchscreen infotainment system, projector headlamps, 7-speaker system, engine modes and automatic AC.
The XUV 300 offers a wide range of features which no other SUV in the segment can match.
Advantages of Mahindra XUV 300 over Tata Nexon
The Mahindra XUV 300 offers a bigger cabin space, looks more intimidating and is much more potent than the Tata Nexon. It also gets more premium features and many segment-first features too. On the same note, Tata Nexon offers AMT automatic transmission with both the engine versions, which is missing from the XUV 300.
