The Mahindra XUV300 will not only rival SUVs like the Maruti Vitara Brezza but will even post a threat to Hyundai Creta, Our comparison puts the two against each other

The Mahindra XUV300 is the name of the M&M’s new compact SUV that will launch in February 2019. The upcoming model will be based on the Ssangyong Tivoli’s platform and offer many segment-first features. This will ensure that the new offering not only rivals the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza but also rubs shoulders with the Hyundai Creta to some extent.

It won’t be wrong to say that buyers of the top-end XUV300 could be even interested in the entry- and mid-level Hyundai Creta. Keeping this in mind, we have compared to two SUVs in our detailed Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta comparison post here –

Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta Price Comparison

Mahindra XUV300 Hyundai Creta
Base Price 7 lakh 9.5 Lakh
Top Price 11 lakh 15.13 Lakh

The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli’s award-winning platform. Plus, it comes with many high-end features like an electric sunroof, dual zone climate control, seven airbags, and a touchscreen infotainment unit.

All this will lead to a very high price tag for the XUV300, and its buyers could be tempted to buy instead of the Creta, which is a bigger car and is a tried and tested product. But top-end Creta is expensive, so those looking for features will instead prefer the baby XUV.

Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta Specs Comparison

Mahindra XUV300 Hyundai Creta
Engine 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel 1.6-litre petrol/1.6-litre diesel/1.4-litre diesel
Specifications NA/121 bhp-300 Nm 121 bhp-151 NM/126 bhp-260 Nm/88.7 BHP-220 NM

The Mahindra XUV300 will be released with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. This will ensure that both the variants are high on power. Even though the Hyundai Creta has a 1.6-litre petrol engine, the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine of the XUV300 will deliver comparable performance.

The diesel engine will also be equally matched to the 1.6-litre diesel engine of the Creta. The latter’s 1.4-litre motor offers less power but should deliver slightly higher mileage than the Marazzo.

Another area where the Hyundai Creta leads over the Mahindra XUV300 is that it offers an automatic transmission for the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines. In comparison, the XUV300 will have a 6-speed manual transmission for both the motors. Another thing working in favour of the Mahindra model is that it shares its platform with the Ssangyong Tivoli.

This platform has won many awards for its high crash safety, which will make the Tivoli safe. The Creta’s platform, while no doubt a well-sorted architecture, is getting old now. That said, its great ride quality and a large number of engine options with automatic transmissions make it the winner of this part of our Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta comparison.

Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta Mileage Comparison

Mahindra XUV300 Hyundai Creta
Petrol 17 kmpl 15.8 kmpl
Diesel 20 kmpl 22.1 kmpl/17.6 kmpl

The Mahindra XUV300 will offer a higher mileage than the Hyundai Creta. Its 1.2-litre petrol engine, thanks to the turbocharger and the low capacity, will deliver up to 17 kmpl.

On the otherhand, the 1.6-litre petrol engine of the Creta delivers 15.8 kmpl as per ARAI. The 1.5-litre diesel engine of the XUV300 will offer 20 kmpl while the Creta’s 1.6-litre diesel motor gives 17.6 kmpl. But like we said, it’s also available with a 1.4-litre diesel engine, which lacks power but offers a great fuel efficiency of 22.1 kmpl.

Still, if you take into account the right blend of performance and mileage, it’s the baby XUV that wins this part of our Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta compariosn.

Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta Design Comparison

There are many people who are saying that the Mahindra XUV300 looks a lot like the Hyundai Creta. This could be mostly because of a similar shade of orange shown in the TVC of the new M&M model. Another reason for this could be the thick C-pillar and blacked-out A-pillars, which is again a styling treatment similar to that on the Creta.

Otherwise, the XUV300 enjoys its own identity and as per the company, gets many Cheetah-inspired design traits like bold rear haunches and clearly defined creases. The rear-end could remind you of the Suzuki IV4 concept SUV but looks quite tasteful.

The Hyundai Creta received a facelift recently and with the update, gets the company’s signature cascading grille. This makes the SUV look fresher and even more aggressive. Between the two, it is really tough picking a clear winner as some might appreciate the bigger dimensions of the Creta while others could choose the fresher looks of the XUV.2018 Hyundai Creta Facelift Launched In India, Price, Specs, Features 4

We think the latter is just a wee bit more appealing, which makes it the winner of this section of our Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta comparison.

Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta Comparison Verdict

Price – The Mahindra XUV300 will have a clear advantage here. For the price of a mid-level Hyundai Creta, you will be able to buy a top-end XUV300 with many more features and an equally powerful engine with higher mileage.

Specs – The Mahindra XUV300 will get powerful engines but the Creta is the winner as it offers more options and even an optional automatic transmission. This tilts the favour in the Korean SUV’s favour.

Mileage – Again, the XUV300 is the clear winner as it will offer higher mileage along with similar power figures.

Design – Design is a matter of personal choice and the preferences differ from person to person. However, between the bolder stance of Creta and fresher looks of XUV300, we prefer the latter.

From our Mahindra XUV300 vs Hyundai Creta comparison, it gets clear that the new M&M model has a good chance to dent the sales of the Creta.
